Next Week’s Adventure Transforms Ram with Westin Pro Series Winch Bumper

Building a long-haul camping and overland rig requires gear that can take a beating on the trail while looking incredible on the street. Recently, we collaborated with Patrick of Next Week’s Adventure, who is transforming his Ram 2500 Diesel into a highly capable off-road machine. To give the truck serious front-end protection and recovery capability, the upgrade of choice was the Westin Pro Series Winch Bumper.

Made for Heavy-Duty Recovery

What makes the Pro Series bumper stand out for heavy-duty trucks? It’s all in the frame-mounted design. On many aftermarket options, tow hooks and winches mount directly to the bumper shell – always a bad idea. This mounting method leads to metal fatigue or deformation during heavy pulls.

The Westin Pro Series separates these components. The winch tray and tow hooks mount directly to the Ram’s frame, putting all the pulling pressure exactly where it belongs – on the chassis. Patrick noted during his installation:

“The design is probably my favorite part because it puts all that load right back on the frame, and takes all that pressure off the front bumper.”

Furthermore, accessing the winch is incredibly simple. Because the winch mounts to an independent tray rather than the bumper shell, you only need to remove six bolts to pull the outer bumper off, giving you wide-open access to the winch tray for maintenance or spooling.

Diesel-Friendly Design

For Ram heavy-duty diesel owners, airflow to the intercooler is critical for maintaining horsepower and engine efficiency. The Westin Pro Series accounts for this perfectly. While the bumper offers center provisions for a large LED light bar, diesel owners can opt to run the included mesh screens instead. This ensures that a bulky light bar or winch control box doesn’t obstruct vital cool air from reaching the intercooler.

A Streamlined Installation

Despite its heavy-duty construction, the Pro Series bumper is surprisingly manageable for a DIY mechanic. Weighing in right around the 100 lbs mark, it can be installed by one person in a home driveway.

The installation process utilizes factory mounting locations on the frame. During the setup phase, the brackets are simply left loose to ensure a precise 34 in measurement across the mounts before tightening everything down. The kit also includes versatile options for trucks with or without factory parking sensors. You can easily bolt in your factory sensors using the provided pigtail extensions and hardware, or use the sleek mesh delete plates if your rig isn’t equipped with them. A quick trim of the inner fender liner is all it takes to finalize the aggressive, high-clearance look and improve your approach angle.

The craftsmanship truly speaks for itself. Out of the box, Patrick was immediately impressed by the quality of the materials:

“The hardware that came with this thing is insanely perfect. Everything is thick. Everything is built correctly. Everything is welded right. The powder coating on it is phenomenal.”

– Patrick, Next Week’s Adventure
