Blake Wilkey of Blood Shark Bronco fame and Harrison Weiss and his Polaris Pro R were on hand to sign autographs at the 2024 Sand Sport Super Show in the Westin Automotive booth in Costa Mesa in September.
Between autographs, Harrison and Blake were swapping Baja stories and greeting other off-road racers.
“I’ve got my Pro R on display; we’ve got Blake’s Bronco and the Class 5 car sitting here at the entrance; still dirty from Baja.”
– Harrison Weiss
Blake Wilkey’s Blood Shark Bronco
Blake and his Blood Shark – a 1992 Ford Bronco – recently took to Hell’s Gate in Moab for the ride of his life as he conquered the trail to the top. Is that Hell’s Bells we hear in the background?
Blake’s ride started as a great deal from a friend’s father, so the initial investment was low before he customized it with a Desolate Motorsports solid front axle swap kit, King Shocks 3.0 and 2.5 coilovers for front and rear, and a Quixotic Motorsports rear C-notch, rear 4-link and billet trailing arms. He built his own skid plates for the engine and transmission, and added a Desolate skid plate to protect the fuel tank. His Method Race Wheel 103s and X-Comp X/T tires drove it home.
“It only took a better part of five weeks to transform a bone stock Ford Bronco into the capable rock-climbing machine that it is today.”
– Blake Wilkey
After Day 1 at Hell’s Gate, Blake swears Hell’s Gate scared him, made him new friends, enjoyed amazing views, and made some minor trail repairs. All after sleeping in the rig for a few hours the night before.

Off-Road Gear From Westin Automotive
Being prepared is one of the most important things you can do when heading out to places like Moab. Getting stuck is a real possibility when tackling the trails, and having the right off-road gear can make the difference between sitting alone in the dark or telling tales of your adventure with friends over a brew and a bonfire.
Here are some of the benefits of Superwinch winches:
- IP68 Waterproof – Fully sealed drum, gearbox, and contactor (AKA solenoid) for protection from the elements
- Rugged Steel Winch Drum – Steel won’t crack or shatter like aluminum
- Ready for Extreme Duty – Tested in temps from -40 to 125 F; integrated drum and controller lighting for after dark recoveries
- True Capacity Rating – Each winch meets or exceeds the pulling power rating
If you’re building or upgrading your off-road racer, or even your 4WD, consider adding gear from Westin Automotive for added protection from being stuck on the trails. Questions? Contact us – we’re happy to help.
